Thus far, reading the Bible from a different perspective and maybe a little bit more critical than how I was taught to study in Sunday school. I think it's interesting how much goes into it--we understand the context, the specific time, people, and reason for the occasional letter. Then, who wrote the text? How is it written, is it in response to someone or something else and does it say something different from another text?
All this to say, I think we have a lot of important things to look at..which I think is even emphasized in the reason faith is required.
I think the beauty in not having all the answers is that we don't have all the answers. But we can have faith that there is One that does, and there is faith in the fact that we can know Him and be saved, and that one man came to change everything and He did. So cool.
Can My Heritage Be Redefined?

Can my heritage be redefined?
I was just thinking about this class, and the consideration that it could redefine or strengthen or even confuse me on certain things I believe. Or have believed up to this point. I'm all for challenges, just interested to see how Biblical Heritage will shape me. I looked up the word heritage, and this is what dictionary.com gave me:
her·it·age /ˈhɛrɪtɪdʒ/
–noun
1. something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth; an inherited lot or portion: a heritage of poverty and suffering; a national heritage of honor, pride, and courage.
2. something reserved for one: the heritage of the righteous.
3. Law .
a. something that has been or may be inherited by legal descent or succession.
b. any property, esp. land, that devolves by right of inheritance
I'm going to go for the definition #1 on this one to explain my own "heritage." It seems like something I am born into or born with; therefore, can it be redefined? Or is it something else that changes? The Bible's "heritage(#1)" was different initially than what it is now. Different translations, different books than some originals, etc. I can be shaped. But my original existence, the first birth, was with God thousands of years before I ever entered the world. We'll see if that's what is in agreence of my "heritage", or if it is considered as many different spots in time...kind of like the Bible.
(I do not equal the Bible, nor is this a metaphor for me being the Scripture! I am not :])
